Production Facility, Dive & Filming Platform
Our expedition, "to search for and discover shipwrecks belonging to Sir Henry Morgan", has been carried out with the assistance of two great vessels:
A Dufour Nautitech 82’ Catamaran, named “CATBIRD” and the 52’ Ketch - ‘R HERITAGE TOO”. Both are splendid sailing vessels and ideal for cruising in shallow lagoons and navigating between reefs. R HERITAGE TOO” is owned and operated by Bruce Leeming while Don Weiss is the owner of “Catbird”. Don's emphasis for heritage preservation is only superceded by his love for sailing adventures. (to the right "Don Weiss")

The danger of cruising in areas with treacherous reefs and sand banks with only a few feet of water below the keel is always present just adding to the unpredictable currents and changing wind patterns near the dive sites. High up on the boson chair the cameraman will be able to get incredible shots of all the action below. During the teams sailing ventures they attache u/w cameras to the hull of the vessel in order to transmit images of sea mammals, fishes and the incredible speed a catamaran is capable of. During strong currents and sea swells the catamaran’s two hulls provide protection for the dive teams as they enter or leave the water. [Abbildung]

[Abbildung] Every cameraman will gladly confirm that a Catamaran is by far, the most stable platform on the water to film from. But "Catbird" is lot's more to our team, it has become our production facility and a home when away. It's sailing capabilities and the special equipment on board are able to give the audience a good sense of expedition style sailing, technologically advanced ocean search, and excursions to remote coast lines. There is enough storage space in the two hulls of the catamaran for everything the team needs during any type of filming expedition. Production meetings can be held at the large stern section or inside the boat. Two dive platforms at the rear of the cat will make access to the water very comfortable. It also helps that there are two tenders available to go to/from the reefs or on land. The advantage of operating with two boats is the ability to film from different view points and it adds considerably to the safety aspects of all diving operations.
