"Marble Tomb" - Marble Island, Hudson Bay, (47 min.)
High on the western side of Hudson Bay in Canada's far North sits a quartzite island, called Marble Island by the Inuit hunter. For some it offered protection from the raging Arctic winters, for others it served as a marble tomb. This episode tracks the “James Knight” expedition, which in 1719 landed on Marble Island, with two ships and 40 men, and was never heard from again. It also searches out the wreckage of the "Orray Taft" a bad luck whaler out of New Bedford, Massachusetts, which wrecked on the island in 1864, providing a harrowing tale of survival for Captain and crew. Follow Rick and his team on one of their most exciting expeditions and watch them as they dive the icy waters of Hudson Bay. |
